Odion Ighalo writes a farewell message as his 12-month Manchester United loan spell comes to an end
A report by Manchester Evening News mentions that farewell message that Odion Ighalo has written for the club and the fans after his 12-month loan spell at Manchester United comes to an end.
The Nigerian striker signed for the Red Devils in January 2020 from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua. The loan spell was initially for 6 months but it was later extended to one year.
The 31-year-old came in as a backup striker and impressed for the club in the 2019/20 season. The former Watford striker bagged 5 goals for the club in 18 games during that campaign.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Ighalo’s stay will not be extended beyond January. The striker wrote his goodbye to the club, teammates, and the fans on his Instagram account. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
Ighalo thanked his teammates and the manager for the trust they showed him. He added that he wants the team to win the league and FA Cup this year.
Odion Ighalo returns to China
The Nigerian international had a special message for the United fans around the world. He stated that their support is still immense despite them not being physically present in the stadium.
“To the best fans in the world ( the Manchester United fans ) we have missed you , but we hear your voices cheering us on from afar , we can’t wait to have you all back on the stands.”
He ended his message by saying that he would be a United fan all his life. The Red Devils signed Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

While that has been a masterstroke for the club, it was a setback for Ighalo. He only featured once in the Premier League season. Nevertheless, he leaves the club after having served his purpose well.
