Wayne Rooney backs Manchester United to end Premier League title drought

According to The Daily Mail, Wayne Rooney has backed Manchester United to end their eight-year wait for a Premier League title this season.

The Red Devils have not won the trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson vacated the manager’s position in 2013. Currently top, we are as close as we have been to rectifying it since.

A five-time winner with United, Rooney is well aware of what it takes to win the championship. He believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can become just the second United boss in history to claim the Premier League crown.

“It’s the first time in a few years where you can see Manchester United feel they can win this league and I believe they can.”

Now a manager at Derby County, Rooney has taken the first steps towards making a name for himself on the sidelines. He has labelled United an exciting side and believes the current form is no flash in the pan.

Rooney also believes that the likes of Edinson Cavani, Bruno Fernandes, and Paul Pogba will all have a say in where we end up this season.

“Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani, with their winning mentalities, have helped massively, and Paul Pogba will have a big part to play.”

Rooney believes the players’ quality combined with the impressive gameplans drawn up by Solskjaer has helped bring about the turnaround.

“They’ve got very talented players and they have a very good game plan going into games.”

Humbled early in the season by Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur, few would have expected United to be on top come February. Solskjaer and the players deserve every bit of credit for effecting this turnaround.

Hopefully, he can now also guide us home, back to where we belong.

While there is still half the season to go, the clamour regarding United’s title hopes continues to rise. This isn’t just due to our good form but also because of our rivals being on the other spectrum.

Despite losing yesterday, Liverpool remain just six points behind us. All it would take is two games for that advantage to vanish. In a season as close as this, United cannot afford to let their guard down.

Having been a part of a number of successful sides, Solskjaer will be well aware of not celebrating before the fat lady sings.
