Manchester United keen on signing RC Lens defender Facundo Medina
According to La Voix du Nord via Sport Witness (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United are eyeing a move for RC Lens’ Argentine defender Facundo Medina.
The 21-year-old came through the River Plate academy before going on to make a name for himself at Cordoban-based Atletico Talleres. The youngster moved to Europe with Lens and has since gone from strength to strength.
He has so far made 11 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, scoring one goal. Capable of playing at both centre-back and left-back, Medina is a promising talent. (h/t Transfermarkt)
United hold a serious interest in winning the player’s services. They could launch an initial bid of £11m that will also see Lens keep him on loan for the remainder of the season.
Medina’s performances have not gone unnoticed. A number of other sides are keeping tabs on the youngster as United looks to make their lead count.
The player appears to be happy to stay on at Lens and continue his development. This makes the chances of us reaching an agreement for him in January rather slim.
A promising prospect!
Excellent on the ball, Medina would be a welcome addition to our backline. His composure and ability to read the game make him a top defensive prospect.
His performances also saw him make his Argentine debut last year. He replaced Inter Milan ace, Lautaro Martinez, in Argentina’s World Cup qualifying victory over Bolivia in October.
Lens sits comfortably in the tenth spot in Ligue 1, having been promoted this season. Helping them stay on in the top flight will definitely enhance Medina’s reputation.
If he continues to develop as expected, more teams are sure to enter the fray for his signature. If United are indeed serious about him, it is imperative that we move fast to land him.

One player who made his name at Lens before moving on to bigger and better things was Raphael Varane. United have long since been linked with the French star, without much joy.
Hopefully it will not be a case of deja vu when it comes to Medina.
