Chris Sutton believes Manchester United are genuine Premier League title challengers
According to The Daily Mail, Chris Sutton believes Manchester United are the real deal and are in the race to land the Premier League title.
The Red Devils left Anfield top of the table, but also disappointed that they could not take all three points. Sutton believes this shows how far the club has come.
United’s last away defeat in the Premier League came in the corresponding defeat last season. Given the chances we had yesterday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be disappointed we did not win the game.
“Did I think United were genuine contenders at the start of the season? Of course not. Do I now? Yes.”
United in all honesty did not take the game to Liverpool. In fact, Jurgen Klopp’s side has plenty of chances to put the game to bed. Excellent defending combined with some poor finishing by the Reds saw the Red Devils keep their hold on the game.
“United had the best chances to win. For that reason, this must be chalked up as a missed opportunity against a patched-up Liverpool side.”
Liverpool started the game with no specialist centre-back in the playing XI. Midfield duo Fabinho and skipper Jordan Henderson to their credit held their own at the heart of their defence.
Watching from the shadows!
For now, United stay top. The winner on the night, however, has to be Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side are now two points behind us with a game in hand. With just three points separating the top four sides, this season could yet have a number of twists and turns.
While United are in the race for the title, we will have to do much better to ensure the trophy ends up at Old Trafford.
