Harry Maguire shares Manchester United half-time team-talk against Liverpool
Speaking in the post-match interview after the match against Liverpool (h/t Manchester Evening News), captain Harry Maguire said that United players were not happy at half-time with their performance on Sunday.
Manchester United travelled to Anfield on Sunday to pull further clear at the top of the table. The Red Devils were 3 points ahead of second-placed Liverpool with a chance to extend that gap to 6.
Liverpool started the game in dominant fashion. The Reds created a plethora of opportunities in the first-half but their wasteful finishing let United off the hook.
United looked conservative despite the Reds starting two midfielders in the heart of their defence. However, things took a turn in the second-half, where United had the best opportunities to win the game.
A missed opportunity
And, Harry Maguire revealed what the players discussed in the dressing room to inspire that performance. The Englishman stated that the players were disappointed with their passing and their lack of rhythm.
“We knew the press was going to be high, but we didn’t get the rhythm with the ball. We spoke about it at half-time, we were disappointed in our performance.”
He stated that United’s performance was a lot better in the second half, and the Red Devils had the intent to win the game. Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes missed two big chances in the closing stages of the game.
“You could see our intent in the second half. We wanted to go on and get the three points.”
