Manchester United youngster Lukasz Bejger set to return to Poland

A report by Manchester Evening News highlights that academy defender Lukasz Bejger is all set to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Poland is his likely destination, as he enters the final few months of his current contract. United signed the 19-year-old back in the summer of 2018 from Polish club Lech Poznan.

The club had to fend off competition for his signature then. Rivals Manchester City were also keen on signing the youngster but he chose to join Old Trafford.

Since then, the youngster has struggled to make his way into the U-23 squad. However, he featured in all the 5 FA Youth Cup games last season, where the Red Devils made it to the semi-final.

This season, he has struggled for chances in the developmental squad. Bejger has started just thrice for the U-23 side, all at right-back.

On his way out

He also came on for 12 minutes in the 4-0 loss to Morecambe in the EFL Trophy in November last year. United secured a cover for him last summer.

The Red Devils brought in Marc Jurado and Alvaro Fernandez from Barcelona and Real Madrid in the summer. The 16-year-old Jurado plays at right-back, while Fernandez, 17, is a left-back by trade. (h/t Manchester Evening News)

In addition to the duo, United also signed highly-rated French youngster Willy Kimbwala for a fee rising to £4millon on the last day of the window.

The move should not be a blow to the Red Devils, who have an array of young defenders at their disposal. The 19-year-old was also a long way away from the first-team picture.
