Sir Alex Ferguson pays tribute to Manchester United star Marcus Rashford

Legendary Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has sent a heartfelt message to Marcus Rashford. This after the striker was honoured at the Football Writers’ Association annual tribute awards.

The 23-year-old is now the youngest ever recipient of the FWA tribute. He was awarded the honour, thanks to his efforts in fighting child poverty during the coronavirus pandemic.

The United ace made use of his reputation and also social media to call into question certain governmental decisions. He also teamed up with food waste charity FareShare to deliver food to children who were no longer receiving free school meals.

“I would like to congratulate Marcus on his achievement and presentation tonight.”

Rashford’s efforts to uplift children isn’t just limited to hunger. He also supported a campaign to promote reading among kids as part of World Book Day.

“I have known him since being a kid of 7 years of age, and seen him develop through the ranks of Manchester United into a truly wonderful person.”

While the youngster made his first-team bow under Louis van Gaal, he was a rising star in the club’s youth ranks during Ferguson’s time at the club.

He is today amongst our best players. Rashford’s activities off the field have lead to a perception that it comes at the cost of his performances on it. It could not be further from the truth.

“He has shown great humility, he has shown courage to do what he did, so this achievement is well deserved and should be recognised with what he has done.”

Rashford’s efforts have brought hope to people all over the country. There have also been talks among Liverpool fans to unveil a banner in honour of the striker at Anfield this weekend.
