Man United star credits Mourinho for club’s success at winning penalties

Marcus Rashford credits Jose Mourinho for Manchester United penalty record

According to The Express, Marcus Rashford has revealed that Jose Mourinho set the ball rolling for Manchester United and their penalty record.

The club have received a number of penalty calls this season that has aggravated our rivals. The likes of Jurgen Klopp, Frank Lampard and ironically, Mourinho, have all raised questions regarding the penalty rush.

The Portuguese tactician’s time at the club saw Rashford miss out on a number of penalty appeals.

“There have been times when we have probably not got penalties. I remember when Jose was manager, there were five or six times where I should have had a penalty.”

Mourinho gave Rashford the impression that winning penalties is an art, a skill in itself. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now appears to be reaping the fruits of that labour.

“It was something in terms of development you have to learn that and understand it .”

United have won an incredible 20 penalties in the Premier League since the start of last season and 42 since Solskjaer took over in December 2018. In comparison, defending champions Liverpool have been awarded just 19 in the same period.

Rashford believes it isn’t just Mourinho’s lessons that have aided United’s luck. He goes on to add that it is just a happy side effect of United attacking the opposition goal at pace.

“It is just a case of us wanting to score goals and the teams wanting to defend goals and penalties can happen.”

Practise makes perfect?

The English international also went on to add that appealing for penalties has become somewhat of a joke in United training. No wonder our players have become pros at swaying decisions in our favour.

“It is worse in training than it is in games! We are having arguments every day, shouting at whoever the referee is.”

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted at Edinson Cavani being given a contract extension.
Solskajer is now reaping the benefits

It is interesting to know that Mourinho’s impact is still felt at the club to this day. While the Portuguese was not without his shortcomings, he is one of the most astute managers in the world.
