Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plays down Manchester United title talk for now
According to The Times (Subscription Required), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to not get ahead of himself in the Premier League title race.
The Norwegian has of late engineered about a turnaround in United’s fortunes. The Red Devils, who failed to win their first four home games, could in fact go top tomorrow by avoiding a defeat against Burnley.
This raises the interesting prospect that we could travel to Anfield as league leaders next weekend. Given the bad run of form Liverpool have had, whether this can have a psychological impact ahead of the game remains to be seen.
However, with 21 more match days to go, Solskjaer is right to play down any premature talks of the title.
“We’re not even halfway through the season and every game in the Premier League is a challenge, they’re tests.”
Burnley are currently 16th in the table but are a force to reckon with at home. United will do well to keep their guard up and take each game as it comes.
United suffered a heartbreaking loss in the Carabao Cup semifinals once again last week. They however put that memory to rest with a win over Watford in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Another win against Burnley tomorrow will see us build up momentum going forward. As seen before, the Norwegian’s side appear to have spells of both good and bad runs. Hopefully, we can put together another of the former.
“If we can get a win on Tuesday then that’s two games on the bounce and we can go into the next game confident. Every game in the Premier League is a chance to build more confidence.”

Given how close the title race is this season, Solskjaer is right to be wary. United have had to push their luck in certain games this season but every point counts.
Talks of retaining the title can wait until the picture becomes clearer. For now, it is just too premature.
