Team News: Manchester United to face Manchester City sans Edinson Cavani and Phil Jones

According to The Independent, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed as a part of the team news that Manchester United have a nearly full squad to call upon to face Manchester City.

The arch-rivals face off in what looks set to be a hotly contested Carabao Cup semifinal. Both clubs are currently in form, with United looking to avenge last season’s loss to City at the same stage.

Solskjaer will however have to do so sans Edinson Cavani and Phil Jones. Of the two, Cavani can be considered to be a miss while Jones is largely a peripheral player.

The 28-year-old Jones is the only first-team star currently out injured. The Englishman is still recovering from a knee injury.

Cavani meanwhile has been ruled out due to his three-match suspension. With the team hitting form at the right moment, Solskjaer has other options to call upon.

“We’re disappointed not having Edinson involved.”

The Norwegian is disappointed at not being able to call upon his veteran striker. However, given the availability of other players, he admits United are in a good position.

“They’re the only two that’s not available for selection, which is a good position to be in.”

Solskjaer appears pleased with his side’s preparations for the clash. He states in no uncertain terms that the objective is to win trophies. A win here will certainly give them a massive step forward in doing just that.

Unlike the usual format, this season’s semifinals will be a one-legged affair. Solskjaer has shown that he has the ability to be a thorn in Pep Guardiola’s side.

With a win separating him from his first major final as United manager, he will need to showcase it once again on Wednesday.
