Solskjaer reveals why Manchester United appointed Darren Fletcher as a coach
According to The Metro, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened up on the appointment of Darren Fletcher as Manchester United first-team coach.
The former United star was recently promoted to the role of a first-team coach. Put in charge of the club’s under-16 side in October, Fletcher’s excellent job with the youngsters has not gone unnoticed.
A player of the Sir Alex Ferguson era, Fletcher is well aware of what it takes to be a United player. Having achieved much in his storied career, he will now aim to relive that as a coach.
Having spent four years together in the United first-team, Solskjaer is well aware of Fletcher’s abilities.
With Mark Dempsey moving back to the academy, Solskjaer was keen to fill the void in his squad with a former player. In Fletcher, he has just that man, one who knows the club inside out.
As Solskjaer would like to put it, the former midfielder has the Manchester United DNA coursing through him.
“He’s got the Manchester United DNA and there was a spot open because Mark Dempsey has moved to the academy.”
The Norwegian believes Fletcher having spent time away from the club is important. He believes it can give rise to different ideas which could then be put forward.
“It’s important we bring ex-players that have been somewhere else, I’ve been somewhere else after working with Mike Phelan, Sir Alex and Carlos, different ideas, and Fletch put his ideas and will improve us in the backroom staff.”

This is Fletcher’s first senior coaching role. He is keen to work with a young and hungry United squad. It would appear that Solskjaer is putting the dream team together and not just on the pitch.
Currently level on with Liverpool at the Premier League summit, Fletcher’s experience and know-how could help swing the title race in our favour.
