Manchester United suffer major blow in the race to sign Moises Caicedo
A report by El Diario via Sport Witness (h/t Eurosport) claims that Manchester United will have to shell out more money if they are to land midfielder Moises Caicedo.
A report by Manchester Evening News (h/t Eurosport) earlier mentioned that United are close to concluding a €6million deal for Caicedo. The deal was also tipped to include 20% sell-on clause for Caicedo’s club.
The youngster has built quite a reputation for himself outside South America. He already has 4 caps for the Ecuador national team, and has an international goal to his name.
He has made 25 appearances for Independiente del Valle, who play in the Ecuadorian Serie A. The midfielder has managed 4 goals from midfield during that time.
Worth the money?
It is reported that Independiente del Valle have increased their asking price from €6million to €10million. This will come as a major blow to United who thought they were close to landing the 19-year-old.
United would be made insecure by the fact that they are not the only club after Caicedo. Fellow Premier League club Chelsea are also interested in bringing the hyped youngster to Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to El Diario (h/t Eurosport), Caicedo himself admitted that things are happening too fast for him. Having made his senior debut in 2019, it is a compliment to his ability that Chelsea are United are interested in him.
“I did not believe that everything was going to happen so quickly. But I entrust myself to God a lot and I work hard so that things turn out the way they are going.”
