Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Amad Diallo arrival as Manchester United transfer nears completition
Speaking in the press conference after the 2-1 win against Aston Villa (h/t Metro), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed his plans for Amad Diallo and said that the youngster is on his way to Manchester United.
United signed an initial agreement with Atalanta in the summer of 2020 for Amad Diallo. The transfer fee was initially agreed at £19million, rising up to £36million.
The deal faced uncertainty due to Diallo’s work-permit in England. But now, Solskjaer believes that Diallo is joining United after completing the paperwork.
“We have had all the paperwork, I can’t see any obstacles. He’s coming”
The Norwegian says that he is ‘excited’ at the prospect of signing the 18-year-old winger, who has shown his qualities a ‘few times’.
However, Solskjaer acknowledges that he would not be a starter straightaway. He says that Diallo must learn about the English game and get some experience.
“He has to learn to play in England, that’s a different level of football. We’ll give him time to develop and to express himself.”
A long-term solution
Diallo is a long-term signing, a fact that Solskjaer has himself acknowledged. Even if the club lacks natural right-wingers at the moment, it is unrealistic that Diallo would slot right in the starting XI.
The youngster is just 18 years old, with his best footballing years in front of him. With only 4 top-flight league starts in his career, Solskjaer is right to want the player to develop further and take his time to adjust at the club.

Diallo had just two appearances for Atalanta this season and has played 35 minutes of first-team football in that time.
However, he has plenty of experience with Atalanta’s development team, where has won the Primavera 1 twice in his career. (h/t Transfermarkt)
