Diogo Dalot looks likely to return to Manchester United after unimpressive AC Milan loan spell
According to Milan News 24 (h/t Daily Star), Diogo Dalot is likely to return to Manchester United once his loan spell at AC Milan ends.
The Portuguese full-back left Old Trafford to join the Rossoneri on a season-long loan in the summer. His deal did not, however, include a provision to make the transfer permanent. (h/t Mirror)
Dalot has however failed to make a steady impression in Milan. While he has gotten opportunities, he is not a guaranteed starter under Milan manager Stefano Pioli.
Dalot made just 10 appearances for Milan so far. Of these, six have come in the Europa League with the rest coming in the Serie A. Incidentally, he started just one match. (h/t Transfermarkt)
According to the report, Dalot is now facing a do or die match against Benevento on January 3. With first-choice full-back Theo Hernandez unavailable, Dalot has one last opportunity to impress Pioli.
As things stand, Milan do not appear keen to extend the player’s stay beyond June 2021, when his loan expires.
The report goes on to further add that Dalot has been intimated regarding the importance of the match. The player appears to be aware that he is playing for his Milan future.
It is not the first time that the 21-year-old has received a heads up. Dalot was also informed prior to Christmas that he needs to step up his game.

There is a cloud of uncertainty that surrounds the defender’s future. Not only is his future at Milan, but that at United is far from assured too.
One of Jose Mourinho’s last signings, Dalot has failed to leave a mark with the Red Devils. It would stand to reason that he may have played his last game for the club.
