Man United keeping tabs on 23-year-old Serie A star worth €35-40million

Manchester United among a host of clubs keen on Nikola Milenkovic

According to Italian publication CalcioMercato (h/t MEN), Manchester United is among a number of clubs keen on Nikola Milenkovic.

Despite our good run of form, the defence continues to deceive. United have the eighth-worst defensive record in the Premier League and the worst among the top ten.

Keeping that in mind, bringing in a new centre-back is set to be on the agenda for the 2021 summer transfer window.

Valued at €35-40million, Milenkovic has been drawing attention from the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, and Tottenham Hotspur. (h/t MEN)

The 23-year-old has been a regular for Fiorentina this season and has impressed consistently. He has been one of the shining lights in what has been a difficult season for the Viola.

The Serbian international came through the youth ranks at Partizan Belgrade before moving to Fiorentina in the summer of 2017. He has since made 112 appearances for the Viola, scoring ten goals and assisting one. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Milenkovic’s current contract with the Serie A side expires in 2022. With the player not keen to pen an extension, his future appears to be open for interpretation.

Fiorentina are keen on seeing Milenkovic commit his long-term future to the club. However, they would be open to a sale should an offer in the region of £23m come along.

Signing a player of Milenkovic’s ability for the aforementioned price would be a shrewd move. Building a solid defence should be on our list of objectives. There are only so many times after all that we can rely on our attack or luck to see us through.

It remains to be seen if we can beat off competition for the player.
