Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backs Daniel James to play a bigger role for Manchester United this season
According to the Mirror, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees Daniel James to play a more prominent role in the second half of the season.
The Welshman has found opportunities hard to come by this season. He has made just seven appearances this season.
The 23-year-old was a surprise starter against Marcelo Bielsa’s side last Sunday. James showcased both the good and the bad in a dominating 6-2 win.
James scored United’s fifth of the night and also earned himself a yellow for diving in the box. Speaking after the game, Solskjaer revealed that the player’s pace is an asset to the club.
“He’s proven time and time again how he can improve our performances at times with his exceptional pace.”
The Norwegian went on to add that the player has an important role to play at United.
“Dan’s got a big role to play for us.”
The win took us to within five points of the top with a game in hand. With a potentially pivotal second half of the season to look up to, every player will have a role to play.
Also, James is our lone natural right-winger and with some fine-tuning, he could prove to be a force down the flank. With Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s attacking output average at best, we will need James to step up if he starts in front of him.

James has been the subject of interest for a number of Premier League sides. Both Leeds United and Brighton have been linked with a move for the young Welshman in January.
Given Solskjaer’s comments, it remains to be seen if he will be let go on loan in January.
