Facundo Pellistri sent another goalscoring message to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after netting for United in U-23s derby

As reported by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United youngster Facundo Pellistri impressed again in Premier League 2 after netting in the Manchester derby this weekend.

Manchester United U-23 faced Manchester City’s elite U-23 team in the derby at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.

The match got off to a flying start as City opened the scoring through James McAtee in the 7th minute, before Ethan Galbraith equalised from the penalty spot 6 minutes later.

Manchester City defender Adrian Bernabe was sent off in the 35th minute. United made the visitors pay for it after an impressive ball from Ethan Laird found Pellistri in the box, who tucked in United’s second goal.

City came back early in the second half after Taylor Harwood-Bellis equalised in the 53rd minute.

In all honesty, it was the visitors who looked like grabbing the win. Despite having a man down, City attempted 20 shots at goal.

Despite the tight scoreline, United withdrew star- boy Facundo Pellistri in the 64th minute. This indicates that Solskjaer may hand the Uruguayan a first-team appearance soon.

United lacked any edge going front after Pellistri’s withdrawal. The game finished 2-2, which left United 5 points behind Premier League 2 leaders Manchester City.

This game was in stark contrast to the 0-0 draw played out between the senior teams in the Premier League derby this weekend.

Both Solskjaer and Pep Guardiola took a cautious approach to avoid a defeat in such a high-profile game. Maybe United could have used the fearlessness and drive of the young Pellistri in a drab game like that.
