Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer has appreciated the vote of confidence from Ed Woodward amidst talks of the Norwegian being sacked
In his pre-match interview before facing West Ham United in the Premier League, as cited by ESPN, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims that the Manchester United manager has admitted that he is ‘never more than 6 games away’ from being sacked.
Ed Woodward gave his most recent vote of confidence to Solskjaer at a fan’s forum event which took place in November. United’s executive vice-chairman said that the Norwegian manager fits the club’s “long-term approach. (h/t ESPN)
However, the recent 3-1 loss to PSG on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League group stages drew more pressure on the United boss.
The Manchester United manager seems to agree with that implication as he indicated that his vision is akin to the club’s long-term vision.
“From my experience, from my discussions with the club, we think long term. Of course, you’ve got to look at the short-term results as well but my vision is long term and my discussions with the club have always been long term.
Solskjaer then admitted in the interview that despite the talks of a “long-term approach”, short-term results matter as much for him.
“…but also short term, you can’t not think about the next six games. You’ve got to think about the next game and the next six. You also have to plan and think for the bigger picture. For me, I can only speak from my experience.”
However, despite Woodward’s vote of confidence, Solskjaer seemed to acknowledge that he is under pressure to win trophies because of the history of the club and the expectations of the fans.
“You would not want it any different because that comes from the passion our fans have, the passion the media has about us, our history, our success and the hunger for success and the demands and standards we have set”
Solskjaer will go up against David Moyes this Saturday as West Ham United welcome Manchester United in the Premier League.
A win for Manchester United could see the club climb up to 4th spot, just two points behind leaders Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, both of whom play on Sunday.
