Manchester United fans react as Dean Henderson replaced an injured David de Gea against Southampton
Dean Henderson may finally have a chance to stake his claim on the number one jersey at Manchester United.
Unfortunately, this comes after David de Gea became the latest United casualty in the Premier League clash against Southampton.
The Spanish international injured his knee after hitting the post as he scampered to unsuccessfully save James Ward-Prowse’s free-kick.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to make the switch at half time with Henderson replacing De Gea. The Englishman was immediately called into action as Southampton continued from where they left off.
He showed good composure to deny Theo Walcott and keep United in the game before Edinson Cavani stole the show to pull off a comeback win.
Henderson needs to play regularly in order to stay in contention for Euro 2021. There is an opportunity in adversity and it depends to be seen if De Gea’s misfortune could set the stage for Henderson to shine.
We take a look at how fans reacted to the news on Twitter.

Dean Henderson has played four minutes, and already have more saves than De Gea in this match.

The thing that annoys me about Ole’s management style is that Dean Henderson could save 100 shots on target this half and inspire United to an unlikely win but OGS would ditch him for De Gea without hesitation the moment he’s fit.
