Manchester United set for empty crowds as the city is placed in Tier-3
Manchester United fans will not be returning to Old Trafford anytime soon. This after the city was placed in Tier 3 meaning matches will have to continue in front of empty crowds.
According to The Metro, the three-tier system announced today saw ten EPL clubs find themselves in the third tier.
Matches have taken place behind closed doors since March when the UK first went into lockdown. There was hope that spectators will be allowed to return to live events in limited numbers from December 2.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Leicester, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Wolves, West Brom, Burnley, Leeds, and Sheffield United will all continue to play without fans for the foreseeable future.
The same cannot be said for our London and Merseyside-based rivals. Both cities have been placed in Tier 2, meaning the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea can permit 2000 fans to attend their matches.
In an official club statement, the club confirmed that the plans for safely welcoming back fans to Old Trafford are well advanced. They will continue to work with local authorities on finalizing executable plans so that we can move quickly when the area comes out of Tier 3.
Our trips to Tier 2 cities for away games will see spectators present. However, as per the rules, there will be no away fans permitted.
While it is not much, it does give teams in higher tiers an advantage. We take a look at how fans reacted to the news.
United fans livid as supporters banned from Old Trafford return
Here comes another massive loan being taken out!

They shouldn’t have any fans in the stadiums unless all fans can attend. It’s a distinct advantage for home teams.

But this decisions is shambles. They should have waited for everything to be safe and allow all the teams to bring fans in. Imagine MAN Utd can’t bring fans because of their location but also on away games the fans ain’t allowed. How’s this even fair?

I might be blinkered but here is all i see, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and City come to Old Trafford no fans, all away games those teams will have fans, Liverpool will have home fans and the Old Trafford game likely have both sets of fans, United the most penalised team of the top 6

This arrangement gives undue advantage to some home teams in tier 1 & 2.

Better allow fans in when all teams are permitted to do so.
