Paul Scholes blasts Anthony Martial for Manchester United showing against Istanbul Basaksehir
Speaking to BT Sports (h/t The Metro), Manchester United legend Paul Scholes was heavily displeased with the performance of Anthony Martial against Istanbul Basaksehir.
It was a forgetful night for United as they fell to their second consecutive defeat. Although still on top of the group, the loss blows the race wide open, with all four teams separated by three points.
While it was a night to forget for the defence, Scholes is not ready to be charitable to the players at the other end either.
Scholes believes Anthony Martial had a night to forget. This despite the Frenchman grabbing our only goal of the game.
Basaksehir took advantage of our defensive disorganization to put themselves 2-0 up. Martial did well to ensure we went into the break with hopes of turning it around.
Scholes however believes the United striker did little when in possession. The same could be attributed to a number of United stars who failed to show inspiration when needed.
“The movement from the centre forwards was virtually non-existent. Anthony Martial the amount of times I looked up when a midfielder had the ball he was just stood in between the two centre halves doing nothing.”
Not doing enough
Scholes believes United did get themselves into good positions. However, they failed to take advantage of it and fell short in the end.
Skipper Harry Maguire looked to have secured us a point, but his effort was cleared off the goal line in stoppage time.
With yet another loss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will need to pick up a positive result in our next game. We travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton this weekend.

It has been a Jekyll and Hyde season by United. The lows of the loss to Tottenham Hotspur are mirrored by the highs of thrashing RB Leipzig.
Unless we can put across a consistently productive run, the season could be one to forget.
