Derby County, Middlesbrough interested in Phil Jones

According to the Daily Star, out of favour Manchester United defender, Phil Jones has emerged as a potential transfer target for EFL Championship outfits Derby County and Middlesbrough.

Jones is one of the longest-serving members of the team at Manchester United currently.

However, the England international has fallen out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and hasn’t been named in the club’s official squad for the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League.

Jones had been courting serious interest from Premier League outfit Burnley. The Clarets were eyeing him as a potential replacement for James Tarkowski, who is a January target for West Ham United. (h/t Daily Star)

However, Burnley are poised for a takeover by Egyptian businessman Mohamed El Kashany and lawyer Chris Farnell. They will not have to sell their star defender if that goes through. (h/t Daily Star)

That would mean the Clarets will end their interest in Jones, leaving the field clear for Derby and Middlesbrough to swoop. (h/t Daily Star)

Does Jones have a future at United?

The 28-year-old, who is on wages of £100,000-a-week, last played for Manchester United in January and is currently nursing an injury.

And while he hasn’t been included in the squad, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently hinted that Jones can still work his way back into his plans. (h/t Daily Star)
