Solskjaer assures Man United new boy that his time at Old Trafford will come

Donny van de Beek was once again on the bench for Manchester United

It has been a frustrating few weeks for Manchester United star Donny van de Beek. The Dutchman was the club’s biggest signing of the summer in terms of value.

Despite scoring on his debut and looking impressive otherwise, he has played just 229 minutes across seven games so far.

In fact, both his starts have come in the Carabao Cup. He came on for the final two minutes against PSG midweek and played no role in our clash against Chelsea yesterday night.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t MEN), speaking after the game, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reassured Van de Beek that his turn to impress will come.

“He’ll get his games. Don’t worry about that.”

The Norwegian appeared to be on the defensive as he went on to suggest that it is not easy to say who shouldn’t be playing rather than who is.

“It’s easy to say who should be playing and more difficult to say who shouldn’t.”

While Scott McTominay and Fred have held their own in the last couple of games, the same cannot be said for Paul Pogba. The Frenchman, although dropped from the starting XI, came on as a substitute against both PSG and Chelsea.

In all fairness, the Frenchman has failed to impress this season. The fact that he still gets the nod over Van de Beek is mystifying.

The Dutchman is the only midfielder in the senior ranks yet to start a game for the Red Devils this season. Hopefully, it is only a matter of time before he does.

It is not unusual for a new player to be eased in, especially when he comes in from a foreign league.

However, the same can be asked about Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani. The likes of Bruno Fernandes were thrown in from the word go and have impressed.

Van de Beek has shown no difficulties in meeting the English game head-on. Given how he has taken to life in England, his absence is all the more mystifying.
