Troy Deeney gives a damning assessment of Manchester United star Fred

Speaking on TalkSport (h/t Mirror), Watford skipper Troy Deeney has torn into Manchester United star Fred.

The 32-year-old has come up against the Brazilian numerous time during Watford’s time in the Premier League. The Hornets were relegated at the end of last season and are now in the English second tier.

It would now appear that Deeney does not hold Fred in high regard. This much was made clear in a surprise tirade against the 27-year-old.

“He doesn’t know how to do one or two touches.”

According to the report, Fred takes too long with the ball at his feet before releasing a pass. He believes this is akin to gifting the ball to the opposition.

“Whenever you play against Fred – we certainly did it – you let him get it because he has to take three or four touches.”

He went on to further describe how the Brazilian is poor in possession. In some ways, it would appear he has a vendetta against our number 17.

“Anyone that watches his game, he gets it facing the wrong way, turns, turns, chops, chops and he’ll give you the ball three or four times a game.”

Deeney’s comments appear to be in poor taste. It cannot be argued that Fred had a difficult time at the club after initially joining in the summer of 2018.

However, to his credit, he has upped his game and has emerged as a key player for us in recent months. It is a testament to his quality that he has now made it at a club such as Manchester United.

Fred also came in for praise from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer yesterday. Alongside Scott McTominay, he played a key role in our wins over Newcastle United and PSG over the last few days.

Fred does not need to pay any heed to what Deeney thinks. If anything, the Brazilian is doing his talking on the pitch while Deeney is doing his off it.

After all it was not the Brazilian’s team that got relegated last season.
