Manchester United want £20m for Phil Jones
According to The Sun, Manchester United want £20m for out-of-favour defender Phil Jones.
The 28-year-old has been left out of the club’s Champions League and Premier League squads for the season. While changes can be made in January, it is fair to assume that the player’s time at the club is nearing its end.
The English defender is yet to feature for United this season. Injuries and being out of favour saw him limited to just two league appearances last campaign as well.
According to the report, United are willing to part ways with the defender if a club can fork out £20m for his services.
There is no lack of suitors for the 28-year-old. Premier League newcomers Fulham were the latest side to show interest in signing him this summer.
Jones signed an extension last year that saw him extend his United stay until potentially 2023. The lucrative deal has him netting £100,000-a-week before bonuses.
Given the money in play, it appears to be an excessive amount for a player who has been peripheral at best in recent times. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his part is also keen to limit the player to just the domestic trophies.
Jones for his part is keen to stay on at United. However, he still retains hopes of playing regularly for England. That could prove to be difficult if he does not play regularly for United.
