Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood didn’t feature in the win over Newcastle United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer questioned some reports regarding two of our young stars.

Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood weren’t a part of the matchday squad for our trip to Newcastle United. Reports suggested the pair were dropped due to breach in the club’s code of conduct.

The gaffer was asked about the young pair and he fired back saying (h/t Daily Mail):

“If that’s the case why is Brandon here? Where are your sources, that’s what I’m saying.”

Williams is with the squad for the trip to Paris. However, Greenwood misses out due to an injury despite training with the team.

Solskjaer refuted the suggestions that the pair were dropped due to disciplinary issues. He also provided an update on Greenwood:

“I can’t declare medical stuff. It’s just a niggle and, even though he’s young, we don’t want to take any chances with him. Hopefully he’ll be okay for the weekend.”

Tough times for Greenwood

Greenwood has already fallen foul of one set of rules for the England team in recent weeks. The 19-year-old was sent back with Phil Foden as the pair brought women over into the team hotel in Iceland.

England manager Gareth Southgate took a dim view of this and left the pair out from his next squad as a form of punishment (h/t Daily Mail).

Greenwood has also struggled to get regular playing time this season, with just two starts in the Premier League to his name. Williams, for his part, has just two starts in the League Cup to speak about this season. United did sign Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles in the summer.

More Manchester United News

The new faces provide more competition for the striker and left-back positions in the first-team. Greenwood and Williams have to up their game to feature consistently, and it will be interesting to see how they fare when they do get a chance.
