Talented Man United prospect could force loan switch to PL rivals in January

Manchester United star Brandon Williams could push to join Leeds United on loan in January

According to The Athletic (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United youngster Brandon Williams could force a loan move away from the club in January.

The youngster enjoyed a fruitful breakout season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season. Williams made 36 appearances and ended the season as the first-choice left-back following Luke Shaw’s injury.

With Shaw now fit and United having signed Alex Telles, the youngster is the third choice left-back at best. This can severely limit his playing time this season.

According to the report, a leading agent believes Williams is not thrilled by his current standing at the club.

“Brandon Williams doesn’t want to be No. 3 left-back at United.”

He believes it will come as no surprise if the youngster did attempt to force his way out of the club in January on loan.

Premier League newcomers Leeds United is the most prominent name that features in a list of potential suitors. Others mentioned include Southampton and also the Championship sides.

“He would be absolutely mental to not go somewhere like Leeds or Southampton.”

Although a promising talent, Williams struggled at times last season. In fact, he looked out of sorts when United came up against top-class opposition.

He still has ways to go and staying on the bench is hardly going to improve his abilities. Whether he does indeed push for a move when the window opens needs to be seen.

With Diogo Dalot moving to AC Milan on loan, a spot is open at right-back behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

A right-footed player, it can be argued that Williams could do better on the right flank. It will be interesting to see if this is an idea Solskjaer will be interested in pursuing.
