Manchester United can sign Ousmane Dembele for as little as £45million next January
According to Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United can sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele as little as £45million next January.
The French international was on the club’s radar this summer as an alternative for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
Dembele however turned down the opportunity. He was keen to stay on at the Nou Camp and fight for his place under Ronald Koeman.
Both clubs were also unable to reach a consensus on the nature of the transfer. United favoured a loan switch while the Catalans were insistent on a permanent deal.
The Catalans’ stance remains unchanged even after the window shut last Monday. They are now willing to offer the player in a cut-price deal when it next opens in two months’ time.
Barcelona are also keen to see the player extend his contract at the club. Doing so will help preserve his value. If Dembele refuses, then the club has no choice but to offload him.
Barcelona signed the player in 2017 in a deal that could rise up to £135.5m. Dembele was the club’s record signing until Philippe Coutinho broke it soon after.
While the Frenchman has impressed, it has been far too rare, mainly due to injuries. Just three years on from signing him, Barcelona are willing to take a massive hit just to let him go.
At the aforementioned price, Dembele is a risk well worth taking. At 23, he has his prime years ahead of him and could thrive in the right environment.

Dembele has already spoken to United star Paul Pogba regarding a switch to Old Trafford. He is not averse to changing his allegiance to the Old Trafford outfit.
If he can stay fit after the potential move, United might well have a world-beater on their hands. Whether we will make a move for him remains to be seen.
