Manchester United rejected Facundo Pellistri loan offer from Penarol

According to The Express, Manchester United rejected the opportunity to permit Facundo Pellistri to spend the season on loan at Penarol.

The 18-year-old became the second Uruguayan after Edinson Cavani to sign for United on deadline day. He cost the club a relatively modest £9million.

Pellistri has signed a long-term contract and has becomes an immediate member of United’s first-team squad. He has since been given the No 28 shirt at Old Trafford.

United did not agree to pay the player’s release clause. Instead, the money was paid directly to Penarol.

The club’s secretary Evariston Gonzalez confirmed that the player will be a part of United’s first-team plans. Meanwhile, Penarol vice-president Rodolfo Cantino went on to confirm that club failed in an attempt to keep Pellistri on loan.

“Of course we asked for it [a loan deal]. We tried in every way but they argued that they wanted the player now.”

A promising player, Pellistri is held in high regard by former United star Diego Forlan. The former striker had a firsthand look at the youngster during his time in charge of Penarol.

Forlan and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played together at United. The Norwegian was in contact with his former teammate to garner first-hand information on the youngster.

United’s refusal to loan out the player could hint at him indeed playing a first-team role at United.

Moreover, he has already been given a shirt number which could hint at the same. Whether that is the case remains to be seen.
