Man United star duo’s on-field spat caught on camera during Tottenham clash

Manchester United stars Maguire and Rashford involved in on-field spat against Tottenham

According to The Mirror, footage has emerged of Manchester United stars Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford having an on-field altercation in the loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

It was a night to forget as United slipped to consecutive home losses to begin their 2020/21 Premier League campaign. We were out-thought and outplayed as Jose Mourinho’s side won 6-1 on the night.

Tottenham’s job was made easier after United went down to ten men in the first half. Anthony Martial controversially received his marching orders after a coming together with Erik Lamela.

Lamela was only shown a yellow card for his part in the incident. This left Rashford fuming with referee Anthony Taylor as the Spurs star had instigated the incident by elbowing Martial.

Maguire for his part appeared to tell Rashford that the decision has already been checked and vetted.

The United skipper appeared to side with the referee’s decision much to Rashford’s chagrin. The striker later found a supporter in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who slammed Lamlea for making a meal of the incident.

While one can understand Rashford’s reaction, it is possible that Maguire did not see what the English striker did. The United skipper’s vantage point of the incident can be a redeeming factor for his actions.

Moreover, with the decision already made, there was no chance of the referee overturning it. It could have just been a case of Maguire wanting to get on with it than waste energy arguing.

Either way, United just fell apart and endured what was one of the worst nights we have had at Old Trafford.

The loss leaves United with three points from the first three games. We are already 12 points off the top of the table and will need to pick up the pace when the league resumes.

If anything, the spat was the least worrisome thing the players did on the field that day.
