Manchester United can only sign Ousmane Dembele and Ismaila Sarr on permanent transfers

According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have been unable to land Ousmane Dembele or Ismaila Sarr on loan.

Bringing in a right-winger has been a priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. While the club has been linked to Jadon Sancho, it would appear that ship has sailed at least for this summer.

The Red Devils are now looking at other alternatives without much success.

Loan offers for both Dembele and Sarr have been knocked back by Barcelona and Watford respectively.

It is not necessarily because either side isn’t’ ready to sell. In fact, they want to do just that and will only accept a permanent deal rather than a loan.

The Catalans are unwilling to change their position. United can land Dembele if they make an offer for a permanent deal. However, time is running out.

The Frenchman is a potential world-beater. However, a spate of injuries has seen him fall away at the Nou Camp.

Signing him will not be without risks for United. If he can put his injuries behind him, the Red Devils will have a real player on their hands.

The same cannot be said for Sarr. The young Senegalese has the makings of a young Sadio Mane in him. He is however far from the finished product and will need some fine-tuning.

Unlike Dembele however, he has no serious injury issues and also has the experience of playing in the Premier League.

More Manchester United

With just hours to go before the window closes, it remains to be seen if United will land either player.

It has to be questioned if the reluctance to make a permanent transfer indicates we will return for Sancho in the future.
