Tottenham Hotspur keen on Milan Skriniar who was linked with Manchester United
According to Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web (h/t Daily Star), Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for Manchester United target Milan Skriniar.
The 25-year-old was seen as an alternative to RB Leipzig ace Dayot Upamecano. The Slovakian international joined Inter from Serie A rivals Sampdoria in the summer of 2017. He has since established himself as one of the best defenders in Italy.
Skriniar is coming off a difficult season that has seen him fall down the pecking order. Inter are now ready to cash in on the defender. (h/t Football.london)
Spurs are leading the chase for the player due to Inter’s interest in Tanguy Ndombele. The Frenchman seemingly has no future in North London under Mourinho. (h/t Daily Star)
A major issue that has been stalling the deal is Daniel Levy’s unwillingness to pay the £55m asking price. The Spurs chairman is keen to instead make use of a swap deal to land his man.
According to the report, United had made a bid for the player back in July. This was said to be matched by arch-rivals Manchester City. Inter boss Conte is now keen to keep the player at the San Siro.
The loss to Crystal Palace has raised doubts on our backline. Victor Lindelof once again came out with his reputation in question. While United are keen to bring in a new centre-back, whether that man is Skriniar remains to be seen.
Three times lucky?
If he moves to Spurs, he will join Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon who were also linked with United.
Mourinho had recently praised Ndombele for his performance against Lokomotiv Plovdiv. Whether that means he is now in Mourinho’s plans remains to be seen.
