Phil Jones set to stay at Manchester United this summer
According to MEN, Phil Jones looks set to stay on at Manchester United beyond this summer.
Still recovering from an injury, the 28-year-old was touted to be one of the players to be sold. That now appears unlikely.
The Englishman had earlier garnered interest from Bournemouth, Newcastle United, and Everton. Whether his injury has now put them off from making a move remains unclear. (h/t Metro)
Much was expected of Jones when United signed him from Blackburn Rovers in 2011. Despite a good start, injuries have prevented him from making a lasting impact at Old Trafford.
To put things into perspective, he has made 224 appearances during his decade long stay at United. At the same time, he has also missed 123 games due to injury.
Once compared to England legend Duncan Edwards by United legend Sir Bobby Charlton, Jones has struggled to match the expectations.
While Jones looks set to stay, a number of other players could be on their way out.
This includes the likes of Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Andreas Pereira and Sergio Romero. While Smalling and Pereira have a few years left on their contract, the other two will be free agents next summer.
Despite being linked to Tottenham Hotspur, Jesse Lingard is not a priority for Jose Mourinho. What this means to the United star remains to be seen. (h/t MEN)
