Leeds United keen on Manchester United star Daniel James

According to the Sun, Manchester United star Daniel James has emerged as a transfer target for Premier League newcomers Leeds United.

The 22-year-old was on the verge of signing for the Yorkshire-based side in 2019. However, the transfer fell through at the last moment and he eventually ended up at Old Trafford.

The Welshman scored thrice in his first four Premier League games as he instantly shined for the club. So far, he has made a total of 47 appearances, scoring four goals and assisting seven. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The winger has dropped down the pecking order at United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He played our season opener against Crystal Palace but was taken off at halftime.

According to the report, James could be tempted to move to Leeds either on a loan or a permanent deal.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side believe they can land the winger for £12m plus bonuses. The Argentine is a daft hand at fulfilling players’ potential and James could thrive under his guidance.

Sending him on a loan spell could help improve his valuation for next summer, provided James has an impressive season.

At Elland Road, he could become part of a free-flowing Leeds side that has scored seven goals in two games. A pacy player, it can be argued that United have done little to make use of his traits. It would be an indictment of the coaching if he went on to fulfil his potential in Yorkshire.

Leeds failed with an attempt to sign James in January last year. However, if he becomes surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, they are keen to sign him up on loan with an option to make the transfer permanent next summer. (h/t Daily Star)

While James has fallen down the pecking order, United still lack cover in the wide areas. The club should put off any decision on sending him out until we sign a winger first.
