Manchester United fans rage at Ed Woodward following Rio Ferdinand admission
Manchester United fans have reacted furiously to how Ed Woodward handled the departure of Rio Ferdinand from the club.
The Red Devils legend spent 12 years at United making 455 appearances and scoring eight goals. During this time, he won six Premier League titles, one European Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup, and two League Cups. (h/t Man Utd)
He abruptly departed the club in 2014 in unceremonious circumstances, thanks to Ed Woodward.
Rather than give Ferdinand a heads up on his future, Woodward informed the defender on the final day of the 2013-14 season that his services were no longer needed. (h/t The Sun)
The insensitive way the whole scenario was handled reflects poorly on the club. A legend who gave his all for United, Ferdinand should have been afforded more respect.
A number of United fans took to Twitter to react to the news. We look at a few of them below.
Twitter fumes as Rio Ferdinand makes Ed Woodward admission
This hurts! More evidence of Woodwards incompetence, something needs to be done because things will never change! @ManUtd

Having watched this absolutely gutted. Rio was a club legend and EW treated him like this! Disgusting, disgraceful, disrespectful.

Funny thing is – how we would love to have him back playing for us now
Absolutely disgraceful. It’s a snippet of how badly the club
is run.— GlazersCashCow FC 🇾🇪🔰 (@glazerscashcow) September 20, 2020
At least Rio as opened his mouth about the set up! Not like Sir Bobby or Sir Alex and the rest of ex players on the Glazers Payroll just sitting back taking the 40 pieces of silver while the club is being ransacked!! Shame on them!!!

What a personality to have around the youngsters. Elite player and fantastic professional

Six years ago. Credit to Rio. Someone needs to do an exposé on this board. A documentary or something to ensure that this type of ownership NEVER happens ever again. It’s beyond corrupt, it’s total sabotage

Woodward has no class. The longer he’s at the top, it will continue to erode and get worse.

I think if there is any hope of restoring sanity at this club we ought to do away with The Glazers and Woodward. It’s that simple
