Alex Telles transfer hinges on Manchester United offloading fringe stars
According to Sky Sports (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United’s hopes of signing Alex Telles from FC Porto this summer will depend on the club’s ability to sell several fringe stars.
The 27-year-old has been with Porto since 2016, having arrived from Galatasaray. The left-back has grown into a key player for the club, registering 24 goals and 55 assists in 192 appearances.
Telles is in the final year of his contract with the Portuguese giants. He has been heavily linked with a switch to Manchester United. And the pursuit of the one-time capped Brazilian international seems to have intensified after the club’s failure to land Sergio Reguilon. (h/t Daily Star)
It is claimed that the 27-year-old is valued at a reasonable £17m. However, Manchester United will only be able to fund a move after they offload some fringe players from the squad. (h/t Daily Star)
Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol touched upon the subject on The Transfer Show, claiming that United had made contact with Telles’ camp, but need to sell some players before a move can be considered. (h/t Daily Star)
“We’ve been told Manchester United had preliminary discussions over a deal for Alex Telles. However, that could hinge on whether they are able to sell some players at the club, such as Chris Smalling or Marcos Rojo.
Solhekol further added that at this time there is no agreement for the transfer of Telles.

It has been a slow transfer window for Manchester United, with Donny van de Beek the only player arriving. Fans are growing frustrated and understandably so, considering all teams around United have strengthened.
But it seems like the fans will have to continue to wait for new arrivals until the club is able to get rid of unwanted players such as Smalling and Rojo.
