Will Manchester United fans return to Old Trafford in October?
According to Sky Sports, PM Boris Johnson has confirmed that plans for fans to return to sports stadiums from October 1 will be reviewed.
The announcement came on Wednesday where he confirmed gatherings of more than six people will be illegal from Monday. This rule, however, does not apply to competitive sports teams. (h/t Sky Sports)
“We will have to revise plans and review our intention to have fans return to stadiums – that doesn’t mean we are abandoning it completely, we just need to review it.”
Rather than abandon the plans that are penned in for a return of fans in October, it will be reviewed.
Supporters have not been allowed to attend games since March when the Covid-19 outbreak led to the season being temporaily halted.
2,500 supporters were allowed at the Amex Stadium for Brighton’s friendly against Chelsea on 29 August. This marked the first time spectators were allowed back in as efforts were made to restore normalcy. (h/t BBC)
The 2020/21 Premier League season kicks off on September 12. Manchester United will, however, not take the field until the 19th when we face Crystal Palace.
United was amongst the hardest hit among the top-flight teams when it came to match day revenue lost. In fact, only Manchester City lost more. (h/t Business Rescue Expert)
The Red Devils lost £17.7m in matchday revenue last season courtesy of our final four games being played behind closed doors.

Tentative plans to introduce fans back to stadiums in a limited capacity from October have been discussed. It remains to be seen if there will be any change in them.
It remains to be seen how the lack of clarity will affect season ticket holders. United have already sold all 52,000 of theirs in record time.
