Ed Woodward open to offers for Manchester United star Sergio Romero
According to the Express, Ed Woodward is open to offers for Manchester United star Sergio Romero.
The 33-year-old was brought to the club by Louis van Gaal in 2015. He has since turned into a dependable backup goalkeeper to David de Gea.
The Argentine has now dropped to third in the pecking order following the return of Dean Henderson. The 23-year-old returned to Old Trafford, having enhanced his reputation during a two-year loan at Sheffield United.
Henderson recently signed a new long-term deal and will compete with De Gea for the number one spot next season.
This will severely limit Romero’s opportunities. He could, however, be given an escape route with the likes of Aston Villa and Chelsea interested.
Romero’s contract at the club will run out next summer. United are desperate to raise funds for Jadon Sancho and are ready to sanction selling the Argentine.
While the veteran keeper has been attracting interest, neither Villa nor Chelsea have made a concrete effort in signing him. This is according to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol. (h/t The Express)
Romero has impressed when given the opportunity and is amongst the best backup keepers in the league. In fact, his record of 39 clean sheets from 61 games speaks for itself.
The 33-year-old is keen to make the Argentina squad for the 2021 Copa America. He has not represented the South American giants since 2018 and sitting on the bench will hardly help the situation. (h/t MEN)
