Lille president confirms Boubakary Soumare will leave this summer
Speaking to Telefoot Chaine (h/t Mirror), Gerard Lopez, president of Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille, has confirmed that midfielder Boubakary Soumare, who has been linked with Manchester United, will leave this summer.
A product of the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy, Soumare progressed rapidly through the ranks, but left for Lille in 2017 in search of first-team football.
Since joining Les Dogues, the midfielder has gradually grown into a key member of the team. Till date, Soumare has racked up 70 appearances for the Lille first-team, scoring one goal and setting up one more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The defensive midfielder played an important role in Lille finishing fourth in the curtailed 2019/20 Ligue 1 campaign in France. This put him on the radars of a number of top clubs including the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool. (h/t Mirror)
Rumours had quietened down to some extent in recent weeks but Lopez’s latest admission is set to put the club on high alert. The Lille president has admitted that the youngster will be on his way out this summer. (h/t Mirror)
“In terms of Boubakary, as we play with two in the midfield… The door is open if he wants to leave. He will undoubtedly leave the club, the door is open. We have concrete offers. We will talk in the coming days.”

A talented midfielder with his best years ahead of him, Soumare could be quite a solid addition for us in terms of a long-term replacement for the ageing Nemanja Matic.
And with Lopez claiming that he would leave, it remains to be seen if United do launch a move for him this summer.
