Speaking to TV2 (h/t Evening Standard), former Manchester United academy starlet Joshua King admits that a return to the club would be amazing.

King joined United as a promisiing 16-year-old. He was a part of United’s reserves that played under current boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.

The striker was unable to make the step up to the first team and ended up making just two appearances in his five seasons at the club.

Joshua King made just two senior appearances for Manchester United

Since signing for Bournemouth in 2015, King has gone on to establish himself as a reliable striker. He has scored 50 goals while assisting 17 more in 170 appearances for the Cherries.

The Norwegian was heavily linked with a return to Old Trafford last January. It did not come to fruition as the Red Devils signed former Watford star Odion Ighalo on loan instead. (h/t Evening Standard)

Despite the setback, King believes a return would be a dream come true. (h/t Evening Standard)

“I will not lie, because I really wanted to go there in January, but what happened, happened. What if United are still interested? That would be amazing.”

While King’s return to Old Trafford has a ring of romanticism to it, it must not be forgotten that he is not an upgrade on anyone we have right now.

There was a reason United parted with King and it is because he isn’t at the necessary level to lead the Red Devils attack.

Bringing him back will add to the numbers at our disposal, but whether it will help maintain the requisite quality remains to be seen.

United could do with a couple of additions in attack. While our front three of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood have been prolific, we have been overly dependent on them.

The prospect of playing them week in week out over the course of a season is unrealistic. Solskjaer will do well to ensure that he makes full use of the remaining time in the market to get who he wants.
