Dayot Upamecano confirms interest in him with Manchester United amongst them
According to MEN, Dayot Upamecano has confirmed he is talking to clubs amidst interest from Manchester United.
The 21-year-old is one of the best young defenders on the continent today. He played a starring role as RB Leipzig made it to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League last season.
His performances saw him get rewarded with a new contract and also his first senior call-up for France.
According to the report, United are prioritising attacking additions this summer. They are not ruling themselves out from signing a new defender if the right opportunity presents itself.
The Frenchman’s deal with RB Leipzig runs until 2023. It is believed that his new deal includes a release clause of €42million that can be triggered at the end of the 2020/21 season.
This has not put off potential suitors. Although it is not known who the clubs are, Upamecano ahs confirmed that he has held talks with them.
“I feel good. I’ve been in demand, I talked to some clubs, it’s true, but I’m not in a hurry.”
Upamecano is however in no hurry to make a decision. The defender is glad about the attention and knows his worth. A confident player on the pitch, his self-assurance looks to extend off it as well.
Apart from Harry Maguire, United lack a defender who can be considered dependable. Given the United skipper’s lack of speed on the turn, it is imperative that we bring in a quick, dependable player to partner him.
