Manchester United open talks with Thiago Alcantara
According to the German publication Bild (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United have gotten in touch with the advisor of Thiago Alcantara.
The Spanish international played a starring role in Bayern Munich’s Champions League triumph last month. With less than a year to go on his contract, he looks set to move on this summer.
Arch-rivals Liverpool have been constantly linked with a move for the 29-year-old. The Red Devils are now looking to trump the Merseysiders for the imperious midfielder.
According to the report, United have not yet made an offer for the player. As of yet, they have only gotten in touch with Thiago’s representatives.
The Red Devils have announced the signing of Dutch star Donny van de Beek. But this has not stopped the club from looking to add more faces to their squad.
Bayern comes to terms that the player is indeed keen on leaving. They have placed an asking price of £29m on Thiago, one that neither Liverpool nor United have met so far.
According to Welt Am Sonntag (h/t Daily Star), Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that the Germans are indeed waiting for an offer.
Strength in depth
United’s interest persists despite us having a number of options in midfield. The prospect of signing a world-class talent like Thiago does not come often and should not be dismissed out of hand.
Although the United have improved offensively since the signing of Bruno Fernandes, our squad lacks strength in depth to compete throughout a season.
Adding Van de Beek and potentially Thiago will give us just that while also adding quality to the squad.

Thiago was heavily linked with us back in 2013. Former manager David Moyes was not convinced by the midfielder and instead chose to sign Marouane Fellaini.
