Bruno Fernandes responds to Jose Mourinho’s jibes
According to Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t MEN), Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has hit back at Jose Mourinho for his penalty jibe.
The Portuguese star has enjoyed an excellent start to life at United. He proved to be a pivotal signing as the Red Devils clinched third spot in the Premier League last season.
Having only joined in January, Fernandes has notched up an impressive 12 goals and eight assists. Eight of those strikes came from the penalty spot. (h/t MEN)
This forms the crux of Mourinho’s comments against the 25-year-old back in July. The former United boss appeared to suggest that our midfield star was nothing but a penalty merchant.
It seems an unfair accusation on a player who has contributed to very facet of the club’s transformation in the second half of last season.
Fernandes for his part has not let the criticism affect him as he went on to score two more penalties following Mourinho’s comments. Speaking on the issue he confirmed that the disparaging comments did not bother him as such.
“I honestly did not feel stung.”
Rather than feel offended, Bruno has added a positive twist to Mourinho’s words. He believes the Tottenham hotspur manager’s comments do justice to his ability as a decisive penalty taker.
“I feel that I am a good penalty taker and nothing more, I understand, but what I take from his words, because I’m a very positive person, is that he said I hit penalties well.”
The fact that he is yet to miss a penalty including some high-pressure ones adds credence to that assumption. Fernandes is aware of the statistics and has used that to debunk the agenda against him.

Premier League Player of the Year Kevin De Bruyne is the only midfielder with more goals than Fernandes. Mourinho can complain all he wants, but the fact remains that Fernandes’ performances’ on the pitch speak for him.
Fernandes has been a positive influence around the club since his arrival. His optimism appears to extend to such an extent that he even makes the usually dour Mourinho appear positive.
