Manchester United leading the race for Donny van de Beek
According to the Mirror, Manchester United are leading the race to sign Ajax Amsterdam star Donny van de Beek.
This comes after La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid failed to follow up on their interest in the Dutchman. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified the 23-year-old as a player who can make us into title contenders. (h/t Mirror)
The Red Devils are now expected to finalize a deal for £40m. This comes after the midfielder did not play in Ajax’s Champions League qualifier against Eintracht Frankfurt. (h/t Mirror)
According to the report, Van de Beek has already informed Edwin van der Sar and sporting director Marc Overmars that he will not play for the club again.
With no other team in contention right now, Solskjaer now has 48 hours to hold taks with the player. There is still, however, a thereat of either of the Spanish giants swooping in for him at the last minute. (h/t Mirror)
New Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman is a fan of the player. The Catalans, however, in disarray after Lionel Messi’s announcement to leave the club. (h/t Mirror)
United should take advantage of the situation and ensure we land the player before Barcelona get their bearings right. Solskjaer appears to be doing just that in leading United’s charge to land Van de Beek. (h/t Mirror)
It has so far been a dismal transfer window for United. The club has failed to land any of their top targets while out rivals around us strengthen.
Adding Van de Beek will be a move in the right direction. More so he is also a cheaper alternative to Jack Grealish, another player on our radar.
