Julian Laurens backs Manchester United to splash the cash this transfer window
According to ESPN pundit Julian Laurens (h/t Express), it is only a matter of time before Manchester United make a splash in the transfer market.
The Red Devils are yet to sign a single player for the first-team this summer. Given the promise brought about by a top-three finish, the transfer window has been anything but encouraging.
Laurens believes United are still active in the market but are finding it difficult to finalise deals for their top targets. The statement is ironic given his belief that we are the club with the most financial muscle.
“They’re certainly the club with the most financial power this summer.”
United’s major target this summer is Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. Despite negotiating with the Germans, the deal has hit a roadblock.
Dortmund are standing firm on their £108million valuation of the winger. United for their part are keen to pay the fee in instalments. The Germans are unwilling to accept such a condition thou.
Despite agreeing with the player on a five-year £340,000-per-week contract, United could end up empty-handed come the end of the window. (h/t Express)
United were expected to weather the financial storm brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. Hopes of an extravagant summer have diminished over time.
On a promising note, Laurens stated that he believes United will splash the cash. With over a month lefty in the window, he might well be right.
“They will sign people, there’s no need to worry.”
However, one has to question the veracity of having to do so at the last moment. Bringing in players early would have seen them be able to take part in pre-season bringing them up to speed in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Instead, we now find ourselves still waiting, with the new season closing in.

It is no secret that United need signings. The prospect of going through next season with the previous season’s squad will be a daunting prospect.
United struggled in the last few weeks of the 2019/20 campaign due to fatigue. Moreover, the lack of strength in depth came to the fore as the matches came in thick and fast.
Without reinforcements, we face the prospect of history repeating once again.
