Dean Henderson sends a message of intent to David de Gea
According to the club’s official site, Manchester United star Dean Henderson has sounded out a warning to David de Gea.
The 23-year-old signed a new six-year deal at United yesterday. With his future now committed to the club, he is keen to play in as many games as possible.
“I’ll be giving everything to improve every day so that I can play as many games as possible for this great club.”
De Gea is currently the first-choice keeper at united. However, a spate of errors in the last few months has seen his position be called into question.
Henderson, on the other hand, is coming on the back of a successful two-year loan deal at Sheffield United. He is now keen to oust De Gea as United’s number one.
It comes as no surprise to those who kept track of the youngster’s development. He had earlier stated that he has no intention of returning to Old Trafford to play second fiddle.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had earlier commented that he expects Henderson to take on the mantle from De Gea. He did, however, urge the youngster for patience.
With his new deal set to eclipse that of Dea Gea, the signs point to Henderson being touted as a long term replacement. De Gea’s contract will expire in 2023, while Henderson’s runs till 2026. (h/t Express)
Speaking to the club’s official site, Solskjaer reiterated his hope that Henderson will provide competition to De Gea. He did however stop himself from promising the youngster any game time.
“We are in a strong position within the goalkeeping department and that gives us the competition for places that we are looking for in the squad.”
Alongside Serio Romero, United have a daunting list of keepers to choose from. Whether this has any bearing on Romero’s future at the club remains to be seen.

Henderson is an excellent player who has shown he has what it takes to compete at the highest level. Given his comments, it would not appear that he would like to warm the bench at United.
Solskjaer has in the past defended De Gea. With Henderson now breathing down his neck, that approach could prove tricky.
