Harry Maguire takes to Instagram ahead of his conviction by a Greek court
Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire took to Instagram hours before his conviction by a Greek court.
According to The Sun, the defender made a post that insinuated that the truth cannot remain hidden. Given that he has preached his innocence in the incident, Maguire’s post would appear to be a pointed statement hinting at his innocence in the matter.
Maguire now faces another trial after he was found guilty of bribery, aggravated assault, and resisting arrest following a brawl at the Greek island of Mykonos.
A Manchester United official confirmed that an appeal has now been made against the conviction made against Maguire.
As per Greek laws, the filing of an appeal extinguishes the initial court verdict and nullifies the conviction. This will come as good news for Maguire who was looking at jail time and/or a hefty fine.
The report confirms that the appeal has been accepted. It will now take place in a senior court.
Thankfully for United, it frees Maguire from being labelled guilty, at least for the time being. With a trial set to take place, the United skipper will be considered innocent until proven guilty.
Maguire was selected in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for next month’s Nations League fixtures. He was subsequently withdrawn after the conviction was made public.
The footballer’s sister, Daisy also shared the same Instagram message hours after the verdict.

United for their part have decided to continue with Maguire as skipper. Although the truth behind the incident is speculative at the moment, the club’s decision could hint at them believing the player has done no wrong.
Hopefully, that is the case and he will be cleared of all charges.
