Cristiano Ronaldo helped convince Manchester United to sign Bruno Fernandes
According to MEN, Manchester United hero Cristiano Ronaldo helped convince the club to sign Bruno Fernandes.
The 25-year-old has proven to be a revelation since his move to Old Trafford in January. His signing reinvigorated a flagging United side that eventually finished third in the table.
Fernandes scored 12 goals and 8 assists as United enjoyed an upturn in form. The Portuguese star’s performances saw him win the club’s Player of the Month award four times in a span of five months.
Former United star Patrice Evra has lifted the lid on United’s efforts to sign the player. He revealed the role former star Ronaldo played in the move.
“When they wanted to sign Bruno Fernandes, Ole texted me. I asked for advice from Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Evra got a glowing recommendation from Ronaldo, who extolled Fernandes’ virtues. The Frenchman promptly passed on the assessment to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
It is not known just how much of an impact this recommendation played a role in United’s decision to sign the midfielder.
However, the impact of his arrival cannot be argued. Fernandes has proven to be an inspired signing who could prove to be a lynchpin for years to come.
“Fernandes had a massive impact. Without him I don’t think we would have qualified for the Champions League.”
Fernandes has not just added to the United attack but has also helped raise the performances of those around him. He has formed a formidable partnership with Paul Pogba, who has also stepped up his game since.
