Manchester United captain Harry Maguire arrested in Greece
Manchester United have released an official statement after reports emerged that club captain Harry Maguire had been arrested in Mykonos, Greece. (h/t Independent)
The 27-year-old England international is currently on an off-season break following United’s exit from the UEFA Europa League semi-finals last week.
Greek publication Protothema claimed that the 27-year-old centre-back was involved in an altercation at the bar. (h/t Mirror)
The police were allegedly called by locals a little after midnight to report that two groups of Englishmen were fighting outside a bar. Reports allege three men from the group attacked police verbally and physically when they intervened to break up the altercation. (h/t Mirror)
The trio, that included Maguire, were then taken to the police station in Mykonos where it is alleged the confrontation with two officers continued. They were then arrested as a result. (h/t Mirror)
In light of these reports, Manchester United have released a statement confirming that Maguire had been involved in an ‘alleged incident’. The club confirmed that the defender was cooperating with the authorities. (h/t Independent)
“The club is aware of an alleged incident involving Harry Maguire in Mykonos last night. Contact has been made with Harry, and he is fully co-operating with the Greek authorities. At this time we will be making no further comment.”

Maguire joined Manchester United from Leicester City last summer, in a deal worth £80m. He was an ever-present figure in the side over the course of the season and was even appointed as captain following Ashley Young’s departure.
The club is likely to issue further updates on the incident after taking stock of what went down thoroughly. It remains to be seen what actions the club take against Maguire.
