Premier League trio keeping track of dependable Man United veteran star

Manchester United star Sergio Romero subject to rival interest

According to ESPN, a trio of Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Manchester United star Sergio Romero.

The 33-year-old has served as a dependable backup to David de Gea. Since joining the club in 2015, he has made 61 appearances, while keeping 39 clean sheets. Impressively, he has conceded just 27 goals during that time. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Despite his good form, he was overlooked this season. Romero was the preferred choice in the early stages of the FA Cup and the Europa League.

But De Gea got the nod in the semifinals of both competitions. United lost both the clashes and were dumped out of both the competitions.

Now with Dean Henderson back at the club following a successful loan spell, Romero faces an uncertain future.

This could see the Argentine force a move away from Old Trafford. He will not be short of suitors, with the likes of Chelsea, Everton and Leeds United all interested.

Managed by his countryman Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds are looking to strengthen following promotion to the top-flight. Given the rivalry between both the clubs, a move to Elland Road could earn Romero the wrath of the United fans.

Chelsea are keen on replacing Kepa Arrizabalaga while Everton are frustrated with Jordan Pickford. Either club could do with a dependable option such as Romero. (h/t Daily Star)

With two keepers potentially ahead of him in the pecking order, Romero has every right to question where he stands in the hierarchy.

Having impressed when called upon, he has more than proved his credentials as a top-level goalkeeper. It might seem that his future now lies elsewhere.
